Aurora Borealis over Marblehead
The aurora borealis is a rare event as far south as Marblehead, Massachusetts. I have been fortunate to capture the Northern Lights twice with one outing on May 10, 2024 during a G5 geomagnetic storm that had peak Kp values of 8.33. All images from that storm were captured between 9:45 and 10:45pm on the Friday night at Chandler Hovey Park. The long exposures (most at 10 seconds) allowed the camera sensor to capture far more light (and color) than the naked eye can see. Once acclimated to the night sky, the eye can pick up white streaks where you see the green light and hints of purple/red during the peaks.
